Velma Hughes, DNP
Board-Certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

With years of experience in mental health care, Dr. Hughes has developed a deep understanding of the significant impact that methylation imbalances and folate deficiencies have on mental health. As a board-certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, she prioritizes addressing these biochemical issues before considering pharmaceutical interventions.

In her practice, Dr. Hughes begins with EnLyte. “I use EnLyte as my first line of defense over any antidepressant or stimulant,” she explains. And the results have been clear: “Many of my patients have experienced improvements within just two weeks of starting EnLyte. They report better sleep, increased energy, and improved focus and concentration, without the troubling symptoms of depression.”

Additionally, Dr. Hughes finds EnLyte particularly effective for women experiencing peri-menopausal symptoms often misdiagnosed as depression or anxiety. “I’ve treated many women in my clinic with peri-menopausal symptoms that were initially diagnosed as major depression, anxiety, or insomnia by their referring providers. I prescribe EnLyte daily, and it has effectively managed these symptoms without any side effects.

Dr. Hughes not only recommends EnLyte for her patients but also uses it for herself and her family. “As someone with the MTHFR gene mutation, I’ve taken EnLyte for the past five years and can confidently say that this brain food has made a difference in both my personal and professional life. When my daughter’s PCP suggested Adderall for ADHD, I asked to try EnLyte first. Now, she’s an honor-roll student preparing for her senior year of high school.

For Dr. Hughes, EnLyte goes beyond symptom management. “Most symptoms of depression and ADHD have a biochemical root cause, which EnLyte addresses. Time and again, it has proven to be a key part of my holistic approach to functional medicine.”
